Digging a New Railway Through Sri Lanka's Hard Granite
A multi-product fleet of almost 20 machine types, headed by the SY365H, excavating a new railway in 38 C tropical granite.
A Railway Through Hard Granite
The Southern Railway is a flagship national project linking Sri Lanka's southern provinces with Colombo. Much of the alignment crosses hard granite ground, so excavation, loading and concrete work push equipment hard in a humid tropical climate.
Equipment mobilised early on the alignment, and the package deliberately stretched beyond one product line: close to 20 machine types handled digging, concrete supply, lifting and pile drilling across the whole project.
Site conditions were punishing: ambient heat up to 38 C and granite that called for breakout force and structural toughness. The excavators fronted the earthworks, backed by truck and trailer concrete pumps, truck cranes and rotary drilling rigs.

The SANY Fleet On Site
A multi-product fleet matched to the railway's earthworks, concrete and foundation tasks.
SY365H Excavator
36 t-class excavator with a 1.6 m³ bucket and 212 kW engine — the lead machine for granite excavation and loading.
SY500H Excavator
49.5 t-class large excavator, SIII series, 2.5 m³ bucket and 300 kW engine for heavier production loading.
SY750H Excavator
76.2 t-class mining/heavy excavator, SIII series, 4.6 m³ bucket and 377 kW engine for the most demanding cuts.
Concrete Pumps & Trailer Pumps
Truck-mounted and trailer pumps placed concrete for structures along the line.
Truck Cranes
Truck cranes handled lifting and assembly work on the railway's civil structures.
Rotary Drilling Rigs
Rotary drilling rigs delivered foundation and piling work for bridges and structures.
